Relax and enjoy the ride! The light turns on with bike movement and switches off one minute after the bike has stopped. No hassle with switches.

Stopping unexpectedly? Built in accelerometer analyses the
motion of the bicycle and shines
a bright stop light while braking. Just like tail-lights on cars do.

Being adaptive is a good thing. Built in light sensor adjusts the light’s brightness according to the surroundings. It makes you
always visible and saves battery.

Technology

Our team has put a lot of effort in finding the best components for Velodroom bicycle lights. Throughout the work process, when many conventional practices do not ensure the best outcome, we are pushed to seek the novel and unmatched. From philosophy to technology, this enables us to deliver probably the best bicycle light in the world.

It is hard to find a bicycle light meeting British, German and Danish high standards. We are exited and honored to team up with Enn Erme. He has created variety of optical systems from instrumentation on Salyut orbital space station to NarTest drug detector and is now designing the optics for Velodroom bike lights.

From the space technology to the everyday bike trip. Velodroom’s rear light optics are engineered for wide angle visibility. We have found balance of maximum illumination with minimum blinding of others. Isn’t it just fabulous?

So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish

DSC_0260
It is our duty to announce, that as of now the Velodroom smart bike light project is dead. D-E-D. Dead!

As a post mortem, we can say there are many reasons. First the team. Everybody from the Velodroom team is working on awesome projects. Andri is building sea-monitoring systems at Flydog Marine. Ilmar is doing crazy ad-campaigns as art director at Taevas Ogilvy. Indrek is building companies at Buildit Hardware Accelerator. Sven and Redfish are designing cars for Hyundai and GM. Taavi, Mihkel and Ivar bring amazing hardware devices to life at Hedgehog. On a side of all those busy projects, people can not just do another thing just because we want it. To execute well, Velodroom needs focus. Without it, the implementation will be futile. And only then the money gets into the equation. To produce VD lights without making compromises in quality, one needs a reasonable budget. To raise funds the team must work on the project and only on the project. To make sales you must sell. And you need time, time with 100% commitment. This we failed.

Always make what people want. People do want a light like Velodroom. We have seen it from e-mail sign-ups. New “where can I get it” and “shut up and take my money” requests are rolling in every day. Even now, over two years after the campaign, there are bikers needing it — wanting it. If anyone want’s to take over the project or is doing something similar, please call us. You will have chance to learn from our mistakes.

Thank you for your patience and staying with us on the trip to deliver the best bicycle light that never was. You kept us going for those three years. Sorry, that we did not deliver.

Good night, and good luck!

Buttons: off means off

VD prototype version 5.5, buttons

To have buttons or not? That is one of the problems we are working on. On one hand Velodroom light is cleaner and less expensive without buttons; on the other, nothing compares to the feeling of having a control. The button here is not On/Off, but Auto/Off. If you switch it off, it is off. Otherwise it will use its sensors to decide if it should be lit or not. Simple.

So yes, we will have a button.

Whisper in the wind

Two Dolls
The wind is whispering about something
as black as a night, yet red as a light;
crystal clear, still made from metal;
and with few tricks up in its sleeve.

Your companion in the twilight zone.
